Shamanism, Dying, and Beyond

Led by: Nan Moss

Participants learn how to deal with the issue of dying and the destiny of souls from a shamanic perspective. The workshop is both for those who wish to learn for themselves, and for those who wish to help others who are in terminal situations or who have already passed on. Experiences to be undertaken include learning how to become experientially familiar with the after-death realms, tracking a person using shamanic journeying, completing unfinished business, helping a person to cross over, and classic psychopomp work.

Weather Shamanism I & II

Level I: Introduction to Weather Dancing
A form of spiritual ecology – a call to those who care about where our world may be heading, and who sincerely wish to safeguard the health of our planet. Through practices of shamanic journeying, divination, attention, and ceremony we work with the Spirits of Weather directly to find out what they can teach us, what they want from us, and how we can work together on behalf of a viable world for all. (Pre-requisite: Shamanic journey experience)

Level II: Weather in the Middle World
A deepening of our spiritual understanding of the Middle World, our relationship with the spirits of weather, and where we fit into that dance. For this we need to know more about ourselves, and the rainmaker within us. (Weather Shamanism Levels I & II are the pre-requisites for all advanced Weather Shamanism work.)

The Way of the Shaman®: The Shamanic Journey, Power and Healing (FSS Basic Workshop)

Led by: Nan Moss

Originated by Michael Harner, this is the basic workshop of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and is the prerequisite for all Foundation workshops and training courses.

During this experiential workshop, participants are introduced to core shamanism, the universal and near-universal basic methods of the shaman to enter non-ordinary reality for problem solving, well-being, and healing.Particular emphasis is put on the classic shamanic journey, one of the most remarkable visionary methods used by humankind to explore the hidden universe otherwise known mainly through myth and dream.

Participants are initiated into shamanic journeying, aided by drumming and movement techniques for experiencing the shamanic state of consciousness and for awakening dormant spiritual abilities and connections with Nature. Practice includes comparisons by participants of their discoveries in shamanic journeys as well as work on personal problem solving. They are also provided with methods for journeying to discover and study with their own individual spiritual teachers in non-ordinary reality, a classic step in shamanic practice. Participants learn how the journey is utilized to restore spiritual power and health, and how shamanism can be applied in contemporary daily life to help heal oneself, others, and the Planet.

Weather Shamanism III

Level III: Creation, Weather and Us
In Level III we approach weather shamanism with a high degree of awareness – to uncover what’s really driving us – our hidden motivations. This awareness is essential for relating with the Middle World spirits and powers, and to effectively practice weather shamanism with compassion and ethics.  We continue to deepen our knowledge of the Middle World and the Principles of Creation. (Pre-requisite: Level I & II)

Shamanic Divination Training

Led by: Nan Moss

One of the classic tasks of the shaman is to journey into nonordinary reality in order to obtain answers to questions, both at the request of others and for oneself. Participants in the workshop have the opportunity to engage in divination journeys for each other as well as for themselves and to gain experience in using various time-tested shamanic divination techniques. In the shamanic search to become persons of knowledge, they learn, as shamans have from time immemorial, how to converse with plant and animal spirits, how to learn about the use of quartz crystals, and how to seek and receive revelatory knowledge from visionary sources.

Prerequisite: the FSS Basic Workshop, The Way of the Shaman®, with an authorized FSS Faculty Member.

Please bring the following items to the workshop:

  • A rattle and/or a drum (if you have one)
  • A bandanna or eye covering
  • A pen & notebook
  • A rough-surfaced, *GRAPEFRUIT-SIZED* rock (not a crystal)
  • A small quartz crystal, at least 1 inch long
